Workers in arts and recreation services, electricity, gas, water and waste services, retail trade and accommodation and food services reported higher levels of sexual harassment than the national rate of 33 per cent.
Jenkins said that was particularly a concern because three of those industries - retail, arts and recreation, and accommodation and food services - were the industries where young people generally start their working lives.
“I’m especially worried about how little has changed for our new job entrants, almost half of workers under 30 have experienced sexual harassment in the last five years,” she said.
“So the survey figures are telling us that in these settings, frankly, things are still not good enough to support the needs of young workers.”
In information, media and telecommunications,64 per cent of respondents said they had been harassed. Jenkins said it was actually an improvement on the 2018 survey, when the rate in those industries was more than 80 per cent.
“It’s now in the 60s,which is terrible compared to the national average. But it looks like there has been a change in that industry,” Jenkins said.
