Rather than working on Wall Street in his pre-political career,he actually worked at a call centre in Queens making $US15 an hour.
Santos,34,the first openly gay Republican to win a House seat as a non-incumbent,made the claims on the campaign trail to attract more votes.
“I didn’t graduate from any institution of higher learning. I’m embarrassed and sorry for having embellished my résumé,” he told theNew York Post.

“I own up to that ... we do stupid things in life.”
He also admitted that he never worked directly for Goldman Sachs or Citigroup,blaming a “poor choice of words” for creating that impression.
Santos,elected to Congress on November 8 to represent parts of Long Island and Queens for the 3rd District,was also accused of lying about his family.
