Cocaine bust at Magic Round forces Suncorp Stadium corporate suite to be evacuated

A NSW man was arrested during the NRL Magic Round in Brisbane for allegedly possessing cocaine,prompting a corporate suite to be evacuated.

Queensland police are investigating after the man was allegedly found with cocaine in a private suite in Suncorp Stadium in the final minutes of the clash between the Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs and Canberra Raiders.

It is understood the suite,on the eastern side of the stadium,was evacuated about 7.20pm on Friday.

“Police arrested a 37-year-old NSW man … after he was located with a quantity of cocaine,” Queensland police said in a statement.

Bulldogs chief executive Aaron Warburton said the incident did not involve any employee or registered official.

“The Bulldogs have been made aware of an alleged incident involving a guest of a guest in a private suite at Magic Round,” he said.

“We understand that the matter in question was referred to the Queensland police. It is important to note that the incident did not involve any employee or registered official.

“The Bulldogs will fully co-operate with relevant authorities should they wish to review the matter further and remind all patrons to abide by stadium policies in line with the values of our game.”

Suncorp Stadium general manager Alan Graham said they were aware of the incident and were assisting police.

“As the matter is now in their hands,we have no further comment,” he said.

Magic Round,which delivered an estimated economic benefit of $41.1 million to Brisbane last year,was sold out at the weekend,with more than 140,000 fans attending.
