Celebrity make-up artist Brooke Simons (),whose clients include Lady Mary Charteris and Pixie Geldof,says,“Cream-based products are having a moment, especially for the spring and summer months.” The trick is to blend cream blush and bronzer up towards your temples. We are loving Rare Beauty (sephora.com.au,$45) and Nudestix ($57).
Underpainting is also a thing. It’s when you apply your contour, bronzer and blusher first, before applying a dash of foundation on top. “Underpainting is having a moment, made popular by make-up artist Mary Phillips, who uses this technique on her celebrity clients such as Hailey Bieber and Kendall Jenner,” says Simons. “We’ve certainly moved on from harsh contours and heavy highlights and this gives a natural approach to contouring everyone is loving right now.”
To get the look, try Charlotte Tilbury ($84) and Tarte Cosmetics ($51).
Healthy skin is always a focus. “Minimal make-up with lighter foundation application is also great for the skin in warmer summer months,” says Simons. “Of course, make sure you are using a great SPF to keep skin protected from the sun.
Highlighting using balms is another firm favourite of mine, especially for summer,as using a balm instead of a liquid or powder highlight can create a glossy glow.” Try Supergoop! (r$65) for an illuminating primer.” And remember,if you prep your skin you will need less foundation.
Pop colour is still going strong and is lots of fun. Try a bold red lip like Fenty Beauty ($45) with a shot of clear gloss on top and not much else. Or use a colourful eyeliner, with coloured mascara also having a bold moment – be sure to add multiple coats to pack a punch. For even more of an impact, try a bold eyeshadow and be sure to blend, blend, blend with a brush.
Pink and yellow is the surprise colour duo for summer,Simons says (try a yellow eyeliner on the inner rim of your eyes or underneath your lashes). We are obsessed with Victoria Beckham ($54 each) for the perfect pink and yellow shades. Paint up a storm.

What does vitamin C do for skin?
Vitamin C is an antioxidant which helps to stabilise free radicals caused by sun damage and pollution, preventing cell damage and restoring healthy balance and brightness to already damaged cells. Use it in the morning before applying your SPF. Try Jojoba Company ($60).
