NSW state government modelling undertaken prior to COVID-19 predicted that Hamilton would bring more than 130,000 visitors to the state and generate more than $84 million in visitor expenditure.
Australian producer Michael Cassel secured the rights to bring the piece here after seeing it in 2015 and managed the battle between capital cities to host the premiere. Cassel has said that the show cannot be staged unless it is able to play to a full house but he remains confident that coronavirus social distancing restrictions will have changed by the opening night next year.
"We will have a theatre environment that, with all of the approvals and influences of the health authorities and the Government and all the experts, will be a safe environment for our cast, crew and orchestra and, importantly, our audience,"Mr Cassel said.
Tourism Minister Stuart Ayers said his government had been supportive of securing the show.
"We have a strong focus on getting opening runs of stage shows and, obviously,Hamilton is the number one stage show in the world,"he said.
Written by Lin-Manuel Miranda, the musical tells the story of Alexander Hamilton's rise from a"bastard, orphan, son of a whore"to one of America's founding fathers.
