With many people moving into a hybrid work roster,it may no longer be practical or financially sensible to have separate"office clothes",meaning it's all about finding pieces that offer comfort that are suitable in a corporate environment,a cafe or the home office (or all three in the one day).
"We all got used to wearing sweats and things but bringing a bit of sparkle back and showing people how to put things together again is exciting,"says stylist Lana Wilkinson, who would normally produce more than 50 looks for celebrities across the spring racing carnival. So it's no surprise that she is hungry for a glamour injection.
Although Wilkinson loves the big shoulders and power silhouettes of'80s TV seriesDynasty, she agrees that 2021 is about taking styles and softening them, say,in a shoulder-padded T-shirt.
Her next major gig will involve styling one of five live shows at theMelbourne Fashion Festival, whose program will be a mix of physical and digital shows. We asked Wilkinson and three other festival stylists for their take on the freshest ways to dress for comfort this autumn, sans tracksuit pants (well, maybe one"fancy" pair).
Relaxed bohemian
"Nailing this look is all about balancing the hard with the soft. Some people leap to labels such asSpell andNevenka but you can totally do this look in a more pared back way,for instance,a leather biker jacket with a boot and a tiered skirt or dress to give it a more overall'folky,Victorian'vibe. There are elements of rock chick that work back with this look, say,a graphic tee,and even corsetry can blend in for a look that's a little'90s and a little 1800s – likeBridgerton, only modern. Other key pieces include a racer-back tank and layering necklaces to finish it off. Think Madonna inDesperately Seeking Susan."Key brands:macgraw,Aje,Zimmermann andJoslin Studio.Lana Wilksinon
