“That’s what’s been good about coming over here,I’ve just been able to focus on what I do on the field,” Brooks said.

“Obviously I haven’t played yet but I feel like there’s not as much pressure on me … There’s a lot of good quality players here,I can just sort of sit back and just do my job. That’s all I have to worry about. That makes it so much easier for me to just come in and do what I have to do for the team.

“I felt pretty comfortable straight away, playing alongside some good quality players like Turbo[Tom Trbojevic and Chez[Cherry-Evans]. Once he came back[to preseason training],it made me definitely feel comfortable with my decision.”

Brooks will make his Manly debut in the historic clash against South Sydney at Allegiant Stadium. The 29-year-old has been rooming with Cherry-Evans during the trip.

“He’s a pretty quiet dude,” Cherry-Evans said. “I’m picking up a lot that he’s just really respectful of everyone,he doesn’t want to step on anyone’s toes.

“You can tell the more he trains and the more we hang out,the more comfortable he is doing his thing with the footy.

“But ultimately,he’s a pretty quiet dude. I think he’s enjoying not having to be the halfback or the leader in that sense. He just has to do his job and we just want him to play for the team.”

If Brooks fires, the Sea Eagles will have threats all across the park.

“The best way I can explain it,if we are on both sides of the field and the opposition doesn’t know which side the ball is going to go,that’s the style of footy side we want to be,really unpredictable in that regard,” Cherry-Evans said.

“We don’t want teams just loading up on one side of the field,we want teams thinking about which side they put all their defenders. We are more than capable of doing that this year,”

Brooks, the 2018 Dally M halfback of the year, was succinct when asked about his goals at his new club.

“I just wanna play good footy, just do my job for the team,” he said. “It’s pretty simple, just enjoy it. I think I play the best footy when I am enjoying my footy.”
