Best Sydney skate parks handpicked by a pro-skateboarder

Sydney has a huge array of skate parks. Former pro-skateboarder Darren Kaehne knows a good skate park and helped design parks at Mona Vale,Terrey Hills,Belrose and Curl Curl. Here’s his list of Sydney’s top places to air,carve,grind and kickflip.

Fernside Skate Park,Elizabeth and McEvoy streets,WaterlooThis park reflects the shift from older traditionally transition-based parks to a modern street-style parks,with plenty of ledges,rails and a concrete mini-ramp for your transition fix.

Sydney Park Skate Park,Sydney Park Road,ErskinevilleWith its sculptural bowls,obstacles and the largest public flow bowl in Sydney,this long-overdue skate park was well worth the wait. There’s definitely something for everyone here,and it is centrally located.

Rockdale Skate Park,437-439 West Botany Street,RockdaleThis relatively compact park has been designed with good flow in mind,and is great for lines. The ledges and hubbas are made from granite,which feel and sound so much better to grind than the typical metal edge.

Mona Vale Skate Park,1604 Pittwater Road,Mona ValeBuilt around the revamped old vert ramp,this park has a good mix of everything and a design which allows multiple skaters to use it at once with minimal interference. The gold standard of skate parks north of the bridge.

Meadowbank Skate Park,Constitution Road,MeadowbankArguably Sydney’s best vert bowl,Meadowbank has a unique layout of rails,kickers,hips and banks. It’s one of the best in Sydney,but it can feel quite packed at times.

Carnes Hill Skate Park,600 Kurrajong Road,Carnes HillSpacious and well-designed,there’s a good mix of street obstacles and transition (from horizontal to vertical surfaces) skating. A really fun place to skate.

Greenhills Skate Park,271 Captain Cook Drive,KurnellCronulla skaters waited ages for this one – and it’s pretty good. Well-located near the beach,it has plenty to offer for both the street and transition-oriented skateboarder.

Sydenham Green Skate Park,Railway Road and Henry Street,SydenhamSmack bang under the flight path,this park has plenty of unique,user-friendly obstacles to skate,with a super-fun bowl tucked at the southern end.

Macquarie Fields Skate Park,Victoria Road and Harold Street,Macquarie FieldsA modern Sydney skate park with enough features to keep all skateboarders psyched. This park has a good mix of tranny,hips,rails and stairs with a well-designed,spacious layout.
