Man arrested after woman’s body found in Penrith unit with burnt-out car nearby

A 32-year-old man has been arrested following the discovery of a woman’s body in a Penrith apartment and her burnt-out car in nearby bushland.

On Monday,about 4.15pm,police said a woman went to Penrith police station to report she had found the woman’s body inside the property on Colless Street,close to Nepean Hospital.

Officers from Nepean Police Area Command set up a crime scene at the apartment. They said the woman is yet to be formally identified,but is believed to be the 28-year-old resident of the home.

In the early hours of Tuesday morning,police arrested a 32-year-old man at a house on Robinson Road in Cranebrook,just north of Penrith.

“The man has been taken to Penrith Police Station and inquiries are continuing,” a police statement said.

Police said the woman’s burnt-out car was found in bushland near Post Office Road in Castlereagh,about 15 minutes’ drive from the apartment. The car was seized by police and will be forensically examined.

Police believe another person was at the Colless Street apartment before the woman who reported it to police arrived.

“Detectives have commenced an investigation into the woman’s death,with assistance from the State Crime Command’s Homicide Squad,under Strike Force Diere,” the spokesperson said.

“The investigation is in its infancy,and anyone who may have any information that could assist strike force detectives,are urged to contact Penrith Police Station or Crime Stoppers 1800 333 000.”
