Nine-year-old girl recovering after being shot in Sydney’s south

A nine-year-old girl is in a stable condition after being shot in the hip in Sydney’s south on Friday evening in what police believe was a drive-by shooting.

NSW Police have launched an investigation into the shooting in Queens Road at Connells Point, near Hurstville, with specialist police from the State Crime Command poised to take over the matter.

Police are responding to an incident in southern Sydney.

The girl was outside the family home on Friday evening when she was “injured during a public place shooting”,police said in a statement.

The child was escorted to hospital by police in a stable condition. Police said a woman and two other children were present at the time of the shooting but were uninjured.

There was a large amount of police activity, which included a PolAir helicopter and patrol cars, after the shooting.

A torched car was found in the neighbouring suburb of Oatley on Annette Street. NSW Fire and Rescue extinguished the blaze just before 6pm,before police arrived on the scene.

It’s not clear if the events were linked.

Just eight months ago,on November 20,2021,there was another shooting on Queens Road. Upon arrival, police located bullet holes in a home and vehicle that was parked in the driveway.

The two male occupants of the home were uninjured. On that occasion, police found another burned out car in Oatley.

Investigators are expected to address the media on Saturday.
