Manhunt under way after pedestrian hit and killed in Fairfield

Police are appealing for people to come forward with information after a man was hit and killed by a driver of a black Honda Accord in Fairfield early on Monday morning.

Emergency services were called to Sackville Street just before 6am after a man was seen lying injured on the footpath.

A father-of-four has died in a suspected hit and run in western Sydney.

Paramedics from NSW ambulance treated the man,believed to be in his 50s,for critical head injuries,however he later died at the scene.

A crime scene has been established and a spokesperson for NSW Police said the victim was yet to be formally identified. Officers from the crash investigation unit (CIU) are looking into how the man sustained his injuries.

Nine News has reported that the man was a 57-year-old father of four,who was walking to work at a nearby service station when he was struck and killed by a green p-plater that neglected to pause at a stop sign.

Police are urging anyone with knowledge of the car or driver,or anyone who was driving along Sackville Street at about 5.45am to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
