A hunt is under way for attackers who fatally stabbed a teenage boy near a Sydney school on Friday afternoon and left another fighting for his life.
One of the victims died from his wounds at a police station after turning up with another boy who was rushed to hospital, also suffering serious stab wounds.
Authorities were called to Power Street in Doonside about 3.40pm after reports of multiple stabbings near a school.
By the time officers arrived at the site of the stabbing, the two wounded teenagers had been driven to Blacktown Police Station.
They were treated by paramedics at the station, but one boy treated outside the station could not be saved. The other was rushed to hospital in a serious condition.
The alleged stabbing took place at a bus stop near Crawford Public School. The teenagers were not students at the school.
Police are now investigating whether the teenagers were involved in an altercation on a bus before the fatal stabbing.
They are also speaking to five persons of interest as they search the Doonside area for more people involved in the stabbings or who witnessed the attack.
The so-called “postcode wars”,involving teenagers fighting with other young people from rival nearby suburbs in Sydney’s west,is a line of inquiry in the police investigation.
The people who drove the injured boys to the station are assisting the police.
Detectives have established multiple crime scenes, including the bus stop and Blacktown Police Station.
One has been arrested but not charged.
