Where to pay respects to Queen Elizabeth II in Sydney

The state funeral for Queen Elizabeth II in London on Monday,September 19,begins a week of memorial services honouring the late British monarch in Sydney.

The Queen’s funeral at Westminster Abbey is expected to start shortly after 7.50pm AEST (10.50am in London).

The service will be broadcast live on ABC TV and iView,Channel 9 and 9Now,Channel Seven and 7Plus,and Channel 10 and 10 Play. Nine owns this masthead.

Residents in western Sydney can watch the week’s events unfold on a big screen.

Blacktown City Council will install the screen in the Warrick Lane precinct from Monday afternoon to Friday,September 23,to enable people to watch the funeral and Thursday’s national memorial service in Canberra.

To coincide with the funeral on Monday,a choral evensong will be held at St Andrew’s Cathedral on George Street in Sydney’s CBD at 5.15pm,followed by a half-muffled quarter peal of bells from 6.15pm.

The public can watch this servicevia the church’s live stream from 7.15pm,before the funeral starts.

The Anglican cathedral,next to Town Hall,will also be open for people to sign condolence books on Monday night.

A memorial service,led by Sydney Archbishop Kanishka Raffel and the Dean of Sydney,Sandy Grant,will take place at the cathedral at 11am on Wednesday. NSW Governor Margaret Beazley and other dignitaries will attend.

In Parramatta,St John’s Anglican Cathedral will hold a thanksgiving service for the Queen from 11am on Thursday,which is a one-off national public holiday.

On Saturday,the Catholic Church will hold a solemn pontifical requiem Mass,led by Sydney Archbishop Anthony Fisher,for the Queen at St Mary’s Cathedral in central Sydney from 9.45am.
