Muhr,a German national, was found dead when police arrived at the scene in Elvina Bay. A 19-year-old man, reported to be Muhr’s boyfriend Kobi Bennett, was flown to Royal North Shore Hospital, where he remains in a serious but stable condition.

Muhr, who lived on Scotland Island, was renovating a boat and posted on social media about getting navigation lights a week before the collision.

“For what it’s worth. After actually never having any,I figured it was about time to invest in some navigation lights without the risk of getting caught every night. There’s still more wiring to do but at least they’re in,” Muhr posted.

Muhr also posted frequently about rebuilding a yacht.

“I figured as a girl with a huge passion for boats and the ocean as well as fixing things it might be fun to follow the rebuild on my 28ft yacht ‘Eric’. As I have zero experience in boats building, this is gonna be a challenge I’m super keen on. Also really cool to look back on it once it’s done,” she wrote.

Providing an update on Monday morning,NSW Police Superintendent Murray Reynolds said detectives were still determining who was on which boat when the crash occurred, but said the pair were known to each other.

Reynolds said the two individuals were the only people involved in the collision.

“The investigation remains ongoing, but certainly, there is evidence that the vessels have come into collision with each other,” Reynolds said.

A woman has been killed in a boat crash in Sydney's northern beaches.

“There were two persons and two vessels, but we are yet to be able to identify whether they were on separate vessels or they were in the one vessel.”

Reynolds said the two boats were going in opposite directions. Detectives are working to determine the speed at which the vessels were travelling.

“We will look at all the circumstances, whether speed was a factor, whether safety equipment was being used,” he said.

“The area itself is extremely dark. It is a tragedy and it’s a horrific set of circumstances.”

The man is undergoing surgery for cuts and abrasions to his face and legs.

On Sunday night,NSW Ambulance Inspector Christie Marks said emergency services did well to rescue the man under challenging circumstances.

“This was a major mobilisation of emergency services in very difficult circumstances – pitch black, across cold water in a very inaccessible location,” she said.

“I’m sorry that there’s been such a tragic outcome in this case.”
