Queensland teacher allegedly abused Brisbane boys overseas

A former Brisbane teacher has been charged with allegedly sexually assaulting teenage boys on overseas youth group trips,including in New Zealand and Africa.

Detectives searched a Brisbane home on Friday,then arrested a 35-year-old man.

Investigators will allege he sexually assaulted teenage boys between 2014 and 2019 in his capacity as a secondary school teacher,youth group leader and sports facilitator in south-east Queensland.

Officers will further allege the overseas offending involved victims who travelled with the man as part of youth groups to New Zealand and Africa.

He has been charged with 11 offences,including three counts each of sexual activity (person outside of Australia when in a position of trust or authority) and sexual assault and five counts of indecent treatment.

He appeared in Brisbane Magistrates Court on Saturday and was remanded in custody.

The matter will next be heard on Friday,January 20.

Investigators are calling on anyone with information to come forward.
