Queensland woman accused of stabbing three-month-old baby

A three-month-old baby was in a stable condition on Sunday after being stabbed in the abdomen at a home in suburban Ipswich,west of Brisbane.

Police have charged a 26-year-old,who lived at the same Ripley address,with attempted murder.

A police spokesperson said the baby was taken to hospital in a critical condition on Saturday,but by Sunday had been stabilised.

“On arrival,officers located a three-month-old infant with what appeared to be a stab wound to the abdomen,” the spokesperson said.

“Police provided immediate first aid and took a 26-year-old woman,who resides at the address with the child,into custody without incident.”

A Queensland Ambulance spokesperson said multiple paramedic crews attended the scene early on Saturday,with the infant taken to the Queensland Children’s Hospital at 5.35am.

The woman was due to appear in Ipswich Magistrates Court on Monday.
