Another shoplifting stand-off at Perth supermarket days after alleged pepper spray attack

The owner of a Perth supermarket regularly hit by shoplifters has faced another violent confrontation days after his wife was allegedly sprayed with pepper spray.

Ashfield IGA owner Yung Wang confronted a group of alleged shoplifters in his store, but his request to check their bags was met with foul language and threats of violence.

The owner of a Perth supermarket at the centre of regular shoplifting sprees has been attacked a week after allegedly being sprayed with pepper-spray.

In CCTV footage of the incident,a child with the group is allegedly carrying a set of pliers. The group allegedly took meat, drinks and ice cream from the store without paying before Wang confronted them.

As Wang attempts to confront a woman carrying a bag full of the allegedly stolen goods, another man steps in and allegedly blocks the store owner as the rest of the group take off out of the store.

It was only last week Wang’s wife,Sarah, was allegedly pepper-sprayed and racially abused while confronting more accused shoplifters.

That incident saw two teenage girls charged with aggravated armed robbery, andprompted a reckoning on the government’s rhetoric surrounding youth crime and the Banksia Hill Detention Centre.

The IGA’s owners toldNine News Perththey were now too afraid to talk on camera, fearing copycat behaviour.

They were fed up with being targeted by shoplifters, sometimes up to several times a day,and have been forced to hire a security guard.
