Bandidos bikie arrested at Perth Airport over Bunbury assault

Police have caught up with a Bandidos bikie gang member at Perth Airport, charging him over an alleged assault in Bunbury last month that left a man with a badly broken jaw.

Detectives from the gang crime squad charged the 32-year-old Pelican Point man with grievous bodily harm, fighting in public causing fear and possessing a controlled weapon after arresting him at Perth Airport on Wednesday.

Police have swooped on a Bandido bikie at Perth Airport, arresting him over an alleged coward punch attack outside a Bunbury bar.

Police alleged the 18-year-old victim was standing outside a licensed premise at about 4am on Sunday,March 31,with a group of people including the patched Bandidos member, who was not known to him.

The bikie allegedly punched the teenager once in the torso and once in the face without warning, causing him to fall backwards onto the road.

He was taken to Bunbury Regional Hospital before being transferred to Perth’s Fiona Stanley Hospital for treatment for a fully displaced broken jaw.

A police spokeswoman said the 32-year-old and other Bandidos bikies had allegedly acted violently and created a disturbance inside licensed premises in the lead-up to the assault.

The gang crime squad executed search warrants in Bunbury and its surrounds following the 32-year-old’s arrest.

Gang crime squad officer in charge,Acting Detective Inspector Anthony Thompson, said police would not tolerate outlaw motorcycle gang violence or antisocial behaviour spilling onto WA’s streets.

“We will not stop with this arrest. The Bandidos OMCG will certainly be subject to further investigation,” he said.

“In fact, all OMCG members in regional WA can rest assured they have our ongoing focus as we continue to use the full suite of powers available to us to disrupt the anti-social and violent behaviours associated with these groups.”

The Bandidos member will appear in Perth Magistrates Court on Thursday.
