Major crash detectives attended Burswood after a black Mitsubishi Triton left the road at the intersection of Great Eastern Highway and Resort Drive around 2am,smashing into two poles and rolling before landing on a median strip.
The driver,a man believed to be in his 60s,was rushed to hospital.
Radio 6PR reported the vehicle remained at the scene as commuters began heading to work. The car was flipped onto its side with a pole across it and a split traffic light nearby.
Motorists were advised to avoid the area until the crash was cleared at 7.40am.
Great Eastern Highway was temporarily closed eastbound between the causeway and Resort Drive.
