The ABC’s Antonia O’Flaherty acknowledged former LNP lord mayor Graham Quirk was currently reviewing Olympic 2032 venues, but asked the lord mayoral candidates where they personally want the main stadium to be built.
Schrinner said he wanted less money spent on stadiums and more money spent on transport. “The review wouldn’t be happening unless I spoke up,” he said.
O’Flaherty followed up:“Does that mean you don’t want a new stadium?”
Schrinner replied that “anything that can be done to upgrade existing stadiums should be looked at”,adding he wanted an option that saved taxpayers’ money.
Price said she wanted a legacy from the Olympics, and she had taken her concerns to the state government.
Sriranganathan said it was “funny” to listen to the conversation, suggesting the LNP were “tearing shreds of him” previously for opposing the Gabba rebuild.
“The Greens preference, certainly,is that we would prefer to use existing infrastructure, and the most obvious available site is the Nathan campus,” he said.
“We’re not saying definitely Nathan, but that seems to be the less bad solution at the moment.”
