Star cricketers Alyssa Healy,Mitchell Starc to sell the house that Jennifer Hawkins built

Australian cricket power coupleAlyssa Healy andMitchell Starc certainly have their hands full at the moment:she’s nursing a sore finger as a result of a recent dog bite, and he is in India for the Cricket World Cup to play England on Saturday.

But when it’s peak selling season real estate waits for no recovery, and no match, which is why on Thursday the couple’s designer Northern Beaches home was listed for sale for $9 million.

This is the architectKoichi Takada-designed residence that was built by former Miss Universe-turned-developerJennifer Hawkins and her builder husbandJake Wall before it was sold to cricket’s golden couple in 2016 for $5.235 million.

The two-storey house set on a rise overlooking North Curl Curl is reminiscent of other Hawkins-Wall home projects given its stone feature walls,ultra-contemporary layout,a vast dressing room, and a swimming pool with adjoining fire pit.

It was at this house that Healy recent broke up a fight between her two Staffordshire bull terriers, taking a bite to one of her fingers, and ending her run in this season’s Women’s Big Bash League.

Stone Real Estate’s Andrew Toohey has set a November 25 auction.

Hawkins and Wall have done well from their home projects thanks to a who’s who of buyers. Their former home, also in North Curl Curl, sold in 2014 for $4.1 million to Fortescue Metals’ former chief executiveElizabeth Gaines.

Then there was their Newport project,Paloma, still with their trademark stone feature walls and beachfront fire pit, that sold in 2020 for $24.5 million to tech billionaireMike Cannon-Brookes.

Their latest project is a clifftop estate in Whale Beach once owned by the lateJoan Sutherland. Even as work is underway it has already been sold for about$30 million to an undisclosed buyer.

Healy and Starc’s selling plans come just a week after fellow cricketer Steve Smith, also in India playing for Australia in the World Cup,listed his Bronte house for $7 million.

Paddo’s biggest non-sale

Brompton is arguably one of Paddington’s best houses:a consolidation of two grand Victorian terraces set behind a 16-metre frontage featuring lavish Versailles-inspired interiors,high-end finishes and a swimming pool, and all of which was subject to a five-year renovation byJacqueline Bailey.

No wonder it set a house price record for Paddington when it exchanged for $14 million in June with Monte Carlo-based art adviserRichard Thompson.

But maybe Thompson wasn’t the best buyer for it. After all, sources say a deposit of less than 5 per cent was laid down to secure his purchase, and the September 1 settlement has been extended multiple times and well past a November 1 deadline.

Brompton comes with about 600 square metres of living space across four levels on a 404-square-metre block.

It is difficult to firm up details on the non-sale given Bailey declined to comment,as did BresicWhitney’s Maclay Longhurst, and inquiries to Thompson and his lawyer went unanswered.

That has left it to industry sources to reveal Bailey had no sooner moved out than she had to move back in,and presumably is now unable to resell it after Thompson’s lawyer lodged a caveat on title.

While Thompson may have every intention of following through on the purchase,he has exchanged but not settled on high-end real estate previously. In 2020,a 1937-built house in Vaucluse long owned by the British Foreign Office as the official residence of its consul-general,was exchanged with Thompson after it was listed for $10 million.

But when Thompson failed to settle on the deal it was returned to the market and months later sold for $10.66 million.

And while Bailey has been waiting to settle the sale,Paddington’s suburb high has since been reset thanks to environmentalistGeoff Cousins’ $20 million penthouse purchase.

While Brompton’s sale hangs in the balance,a nearby $13.5 million sale of a single Victorian terrace has settled to ASX chairmanDamian Roche and his wifeJustine after it was sold by The Agency’s Ben Collier.

While there is no shortage of nicely renovated Victorian terraces locally, this one seems to pull all the big names. It was sold by Canva CFODamien Singh andAlexandra Pack, who did well on their two-year ownership given they paid $12 million for it from recently appointed Business Council of Australia presidentGeoff Culbert and his wifeEmma Ward.
