Billionaire tech entrepreneur Robin Khuda has amassed one of Australia’s most substantial residential real estate portfolios,but there’s one property he no longer needs.

A glamorous South Melbourne penthouse has been listed for sale by the founder of data centre company AirTrunk with a price guide of $6.95 million.

The three-bedroom home has been an under-the-radar investment,and is owned by a corporate entity directed by Khuda and his wife,Melea Walker-Khuda.

It was bought in late 2020 for $6.6 million,public records show.

The next year it was advertised as a fully furnished high-end rental with an asking price of $5500 a week.

More recently it has appeared on a luxury holiday home listing site with a rate from $2500 a night. A $10,000 security deposit is required and parties are banned,on pain of a $5000 penalty.

The pad spans 545 square metres of indoor and outdoor space and comes with a rooftop pool,al fresco dining area,barbecue,high-end kitchen and butler’s pantry with a striking mirrored bar,views across the CBD and Port Phillip Bay and secure parking for four vehicles.

The Agency selling agent Michael Paproth declined to comment on the identity of the vendor when contacted byThe Age,saying only that the apartment is surplus to its owners’ needs.

“The property is spectacular:a 500-plus square metre penthouse apartment with its own private pool looking north towards the city and into the grand prix track,” he said.

Khuda made headlines the year after buying the penthouse when he snapped up a string of commercial properties including a $5.1 million St Kilda bar and a $21 million super-site in the same suburb comprising shops and apartments.

But it is Sydney and northern NSW where he has made the biggest impression on title records.

In 2021 hebought a Mosman knockdown for close to $20 million,thenadded the house next door for more than $10 million a year later,andproposed an elegant newly built residence at a cost of almost $14 million.

He has spentabout another $100 million on high-end real estate ranging from a coastal retreat in Lennox Head to a Sydney apartment sold by Lady Bronagh Key,the wife of former New Zealand prime minister Sir John Key.

He bought a string of Sydney terraces,beach houses,development opportunities and a luxury apartment in Crown Resorts’ Barangaroo tower.

Khuda’s wealth increased amid the surge in demand for cloud computing with the shift to widespread working from home when the pandemic hit.

Macquarie Infrastructure and Real Assets valued AirTrunk at $3 billion and bought an 88 per cent stake in it in April 2020.

Khuda’s wealth was valued at $1.1 billion on the latestFinancial Review Rich List.
