Geelong’s recruiting manager Stephen Wells believes Shaun Mannagh can have an impact for the Cats’ AFL side next year.
The Cats took Mannagh at pick 36. The 26-year-old starred for Werribee this year in the VFL,named best on ground in the grand final in a losing side, kicking six goals.
“Shaun has deserved a chance to be on an AFL list,we think, based on a couple of years of performances,” Wells told Fox Footy.
“We think he can make an impact straight away … and when he played so well in a grand final,it became a priority for us.”
The Cats were extremely active, taking six players in the draft. Connor O’Sullivan was their marquee selection at pick 11 on Monday night, but they also took Oliver Wiltshire at pick 61,straight out of Barwon Heads in the Bellarine Football League.
Asked if Wiltshire could be a diamond in the rough,Wells said:“Well that’s the plan and the hope”.
“Ollie had a go at the Falcons a few years ago … once again,he deserves his chance too,” Wells said.
