‘Are they the Melbourne of last year?’

This week on theReal Footypodcast,Michael Gleeson,Caroline Wilson and Jake Niall discuss the ramifications of Nick Daicos’ injury on the Brownlow Medal, and more importantly Collingwood’s premiership tilt.

Daicos is expected to spend six weeks on the sidelines after fracturing his knee in Saturday’s loss to Hawthorn, which was the Magpies’ second defeat in a row – exposing weaknesses in the ladder leader’s game style.

The Magpies were smashed 18-3 in the centre clearances and looked slow through the midfield, leaving the panel genuinely concerned about their form heading into the final three rounds of the home and away season.

Meanwhile, the Brownlow Medal could now be Marcus Bontempelli’s to lose, with many believing he’s only a few votes behind Daicos with three rounds to play.

Melbourne is perhaps now the team to beat,Caroline Wilson says, although they have a fresh injury concern of their own with Harrison Petty facing another stint out with a foot injury.

Does Brodie Grundy warrant a call-up?

The most in-form team is likely the one that sits just outside the top four in Carlton, who showed grit to overcome St Kilda on Sunday.

How have the Blues been able to turn it around, and what does it say about Carlton as a club?

The panel discussedlast week’s squirrel grip incident involving Touk Miller and Dayne Zorko, andalso Mark Evans’ move to fly to Cinque Terre in Italy and discuss the Gold Coast Suns’ vacant head coaching role with Damien Hardwick.

All that and plenty more on this week’s episode of Real Footy.
