Browne will run with the support of three other candidates - businesspeople Barry Carp and Renee Roberts, along with existing director Christine Holgate, who is up for re-election - however he is yet to put forward his plans for the club if he became president.
Holgate and VRC Chairman Neil Wilson decided to run for re-election,
in September, just months after filling a vacancy, and is no longer a candidate.
If Wilson is elected, to waive clause 25 (a) of the Memorandum and Articles of Association that requires a board member to have been a member for at least 24 months immediately before their nomination.
The other candidates for the board are former racing integrity commissioner and policeman Sal Perna, public health executive Amanda Cameron,Sports Geek founder Sean Callanan, independent businessman Colin Moorhead, medical researcher Mark Febbraio and automotive manager Chris MacDonald.
Current president Mark Korda has indicated he will stand down as president next year and serve on the board until the end of 2022,while Paul Licuria and Jodie Sizer are not up for re-election having been re-elected in 2021.
Voting in the election will close on December 10,six days before the club’s AGM on December 16,a year after long-serving president Eddie McGuire indicated he would stand down at the end of 2021.
He eventually stood down in February this year after the bungled release of the Do Better report, which examined a history of racism within the club and made recommendations to improve the club’s capacity to deal with the issue.
It has been a turbulent year for the Magpies on and off the field, with the club finishing 17th and replacing coach Nathan Buckley mid-year. That came just months after McGuire’s exit, which saw Korda and Murphy serve as co-presidents for a period with the instability leading to Browne declaring he wanted to be president.
The club never settled after upsetting supporters during the 2021 trade period when they offloaded Adam Treloar,Jaidyn Stephenson,Atu Bosenglavu because of salary cap pressures.
