Hannah Gutierrez,the chief weapons handler for the Western movie Rust,has been sentenced to 18 months in prison over the death of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins.
Special prosecutors brought the case before a grand jury months after receiving a new analysis of the gun that was used in a 2021 fatal shooting during a rehearsal on a movie set in New Mexico.
The actor’s attorney said it is unconstitutionally based on a law passed after the shooting on the set of the film Rust.
The announcement comes after a Santa Fe prosecutor criminally charged Baldwin with involuntary manslaughter,accusing him of reckless disregard for safety in the on-set shooting.
Baldwin’s case is remarkable in that there is little or no precedent for an actor to face criminal charges for an on-set death since the birth of Hollywood.
