Hundreds of projects were funded over three rounds,with the audit finding the political interference got worse as each round progressed.

The Age andThe Sydney Morning Herald on Tuesday reportedSport Australia submitted its preferred round-two projects on January 25,only for them to be withdrawn 20 minutes later after Senator McKenzie's office requested a late change.

On January 29,Senator McKenzie's office provided Sport Australia with a list of 236 projects it had identified for round-two funding — with only 73 in common with the original merit-based selections.

According to the ABC,the Pakenham Football Club in the Victorian Liberal-held marginal seat of La Trobe got the maximum $500,000 grant despite an assessment score of 50 out of 100.

Meanwhile a roller derby project with a score of 98 in the safe Nationals seat of Gippsland missed out.

Prime Minister Scott Morrison is waiting for a review of whether Senator McKenzie breached her ministerial guidelines,which is expected to be handed to his office in coming days.

Labor,the Greens and crossbencher senators have called for Senator McKenzie to resign from her current role as Agriculture Minister,but so far she is standing firm.

A spokesman for the Prime Minister said his office was waiting for the report from Philip Gaetjens,the secretary of the Department of Prime Minister and Cabinet.
