“I know[the industry] want him removed because he has been the first minister in my 25 years of advocating pokies reform that has shown backbone,” he said.

Industry figures lobbying for Mr Dominello to lose liquor and gaming have criticised his attempts to reform pokies and introduce a cashless gambling card, and say his relationship with the industry has soured over recent months.

“The government has been spending untold billions on the hospitality industry to get them through COVID,and the minister supposedly responsible is only interested in a gambling card,a decade-old idea he is trumping up as some digital innovation,” one industry source who is not authorised to comment publicly said.

Jobs Minister Stuart Ayres has been tipped to potentially take over liquor and gaming,as well as the newly created cities portfolio as part of a super hospitality cluster.

Among Mr Perrottet’s biggest decisions will be whether to keep Rob Stokes in the role of Transport Minister, who had the portfolio thrust upon him in October after the resignation of Bega Liberal MP Andrew Constance.

Mr Stokes, who has held the portfolio simultaneously with planning, has been considered the most likely to stay in transport. Sports Minister Natalie Ward has also expressed interest.

The long-awaited reshuffle could see a handful of ministers dumped from the frontbench, with Mr Perrottet likely to bring in fresh faces ahead of the 2023 election.

Water,Housing and Property Minister Melinda Pavey,Better Regulation and Innovation Minister Kevin Anderson and Arts Minister Don Harwin could all be in line for demotions in the reshuffle, which is expected to be days away.

Meanwhile,Nationals MPs Stephanie Cooke,Benjamin Franklin and Dugald Saunders have all been tipped for a potential promotion,as well as Liberal MPs James Griffin,Natasha Maclaren-Jones and Eleni Petinos.

Mr Perrottet could also make changes to the police portfolio, held by David Elliott, with speculation the Nationals may claim back the role.

The Premier last week said he wanted to see a greater representation of women around the cabinet table to improve diversity and result in better public policy development. However,he said he would not commit to a quota.

Mr Dominello’s push for reform comes amid growing calls for a royal commission-style inquiry into allegations that organised crime is washing hundreds of millions of dollars through some of the state’s 95,000 poker machines.

Mr Costello, who is the chief advocate for the Alliance for Gambling Reform, said Mr Dominello should be trusted to see through reforms.

Mr Dominello’s office has distributed an eight-page document titled “Liquor&Gaming NSW Achievements under Minister Dominello 2019-2021”.

It refers to initiatives championed by the minister, including the Dine and Discover vouchers, alfresco dining and take-away alcohol, and his support for the recent Bergin casino inquiry.
