The Balmoral slopes sale debunks long-held expectations that Mosman’s top price is usually held by one of the oceanfront estates on Hopetoun Avenue’s Golden Triangle,or one of the historic “merchant mansions” in Clifton Gardens. However, despite the occasional unsolicited offer over the years, those grand estates rarely trade.
The Conway family’s Stanley Avenue mansion does have some impressive attributes in its favour:It is set on one of the few level blocks on Balmoral slopes, and the 1200-square-metre parcel has uninterrupted views from Manly and through the heads.
The three-level house has a vast 750 square metres of internal living space which includes five bedrooms suites (all with marble bathrooms),four living areas,a separate home office,a 13-metre heated swimming pool and spa,a gymnasium, sauna and an entertainment room billed as a “man-cave” with room for a pool table and a bar.
It last traded in 2015 for $12.3 million, when sold by aviation legal adviser Colin Thaine, and has been renovated throughout in recent years.
