According to the ABC,the Sydney man Ibrahim Bazzi had travelled to Lebanon to visit his wife Shorouk Hammoud,who recently acquired an Australian visa. His brother was born in Sydney but had moved to Lebanon several years ago.
Local media in Lebanon reported that an Israeli warplane fired a missile that hit a number of homes in Bint Jbeil. The Herald and theAge have been unable to confirm these reports.
On Monday,the Israeli military said it was striking Hezbollah targets based in Lebanon in response to rockets and missiles being fired into northern Israel by the militant group.

The Bazzi brothers’ deaths would make them the first Australians to have died in Lebanon,where fighting has occurred near the Israeli border since the start of the Gaza conflict between Israel and Hamas. There is no suggestion Ibrahim was connected to Hezbollah. The militant group posted a message after the attack describing Ali as a martyr.
The Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade said it was investigating reports an Australian had died and was standing by to provide consular assistance if required.
“The Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade is aware of reports an Australian citizen has died in Lebanon and is seeking confirmation,” a spokesperson said.
