Students at the new Inner Sydney High School will get exclusive access to part of Prince Alfred Park during school hours.

"We are 150 metres from the school and to be excluded from a world-class,brand new school - we feel really disappointed to be honest,"he said."I can see the school from my bedroom window but won't be able to use it.

"Kids can come from all the way over from Double Bay and Elizabeth Bay,but the ones who are across the road miss out. So-called disadvantaged Redfern gets left out."

Skye Molyneux, one of those who campaigned for a new school in the inner city, said many parents were upset.

"You think,'oh my god,the school is on its own boundary, how ridiculous,"she said."It seems that kids who could really benefit from a fabulous new facility that's on their doorstep, families who live in social and affordable housing, just across the road,[miss out].

"Boundaries are fluid, and families can always make an out-of-area application, but that shouldn't be the status quo. If you live within a block of the school and have been part of the campaign, being told you have to walk past it to somewhere else is a kick in the guts."

In its announcement,School Infrastructure NSW said it had consulted with local primary and high school principals about the catchment."As per regular departmental practice, the boundaries will be reviewed from time to time."

The catchment does take in public housing areas around Woolloomooloo and Surry Hills.

The department has been contacted for comment.
