According to the referee,Icely put a knee into Swinton’s back – he vehemently refuted the claim when he joined teammates on the bench – and then Swinton reacted with a punch to the head.
Few in the stands saw what happened and there was plenty of confusion at a tense moment in the game.
“I’ll have to have a look at it,Swinton always plays on the edge,” said University coach Rob Taylor. “I haven’t seen two reds in a while. Hopefully,Swinton is OK,he is a big part of our team.”
From there the Students scored two tries in the final 10 minutes to run away with the result and leapfrog Eastwood on the ladder.
It was the first time Uni had tasted victory at TG Millner Field since 2010.
“There’s been a lot of good Uni teams come here and lose,” Taylor said. “It just speaks highly of the competition between Eastwood and Uni. Even though we got a late try there it was a good arm-wrestle for 80 minutes. It was a good bit of history for us to break that drought.
