How hard was it to keep up with the guests'improvising, and to guide them through the scenes?
The ensemble were all improvisers and we had a series of questions that Tom[Gleisner],Rob[Sitch] and Santo[Cilauro] had prepared so we had back-ups,back-ups of back-ups,and – if all else failed – our own brains. There was one time it all went out the window when Micalleff turned and asked the studio audience a question. I was lost.
Did you have a favourite scene partner onTGYH?
I loved doing the'all in'scenes at the end. Watching the guests all have to work together and still work with the ensemble was always a high-wire act. My favourite all-time moment was one I wasn't in. Series two, episode one:all in,a Knights of the Round Table scene. Tony Martin was asked what his knight was. He said'Sir Guy of Sebastian'.
Equally, was there anyone you particularly hated performing with? Use a fake name if you like,we'll be discreet.
I hated working with Josh Lawson. He's one of my best mates in real life and he spent all of the scene time trying to make me laugh. I never did.
These days you're a genuine superstar. IfTGYH made a new season, would you come back as a guest star?
I would honestly want to come back as ensemble. I loved that gig. The teamwork and the variety, helping the guests do their best. Or I'll be the judge. Tom's eyesight these days means he couldn't see the stage.
What makes you laugh more than anything?
On the show it was when the guest had the look of terror in their eye and then would say something funny that even surprised them. Off the show it's Russian cat videos,of course.
How often are you recognised in public, and how angry does it make you?
No,I like it. People are very nice. If I'm out at night and someone who has had too many drinks or is a bit too friendly,I just say'Go away'. When I do that I tell them I'm not me,I'm Rob Mills.
