Winners
Social housing:A total of $1.9 billion will be invested over four years to increase the supply of social housing,upgrade existing dwelling stock and deliver housing services to vulnerable Queenslanders – expected to deliver 6000 houses for the more than 47,000 people on the social housing register. However,the sector had beenasking for an investment of double this figure to try to catch up with demand.
Students and families:Ten new schools,on top of those already planned,will be built across the south-east by 2024 at a cost of $913.7 million. Another $500 million for additional and renewed infrastructure at existing campuses will include $309.2 million in the coming financial year in regional Queensland alone.
Health system:The government has announced a $2 billion Hospital Building Fund to address growth pressure across the health system,in addition to already planned works. An initial investment will be made to the Toowoomba Day Surgery along with public health services as part of the Springfield Mater Hospital expansion.
Regional Queensland: A total of 61 per cent of the government’s capital infrastructure works program will occur in regional areas.
