The NSW government’s flagship rail project will be composed of a line from Chatswood to the CBD,traversing under Sydney harbour, and then onto Sydenham and Bankstown.
“Around 50,000 people will have worked on this incredible city-shaping project by the time services start in 2024,with about 800 involved in the tunnel fit-out and 5000 currently working on the project,” Premier Gladys Berejiklian said.
“It will take just three minutes to travel between the new Victoria Cross Station at North Sydney or Barangaroo Station using the tunnels, transforming the way we travel around our great city.”
Transport Minister Andrew Constance and Ms Berejiklian on Thursday visited the completed tracks on the Blues Point side of the tunnel 40 metres below the harbour surface.
“There is no doubt that this is the sneak-peak Sydneysiders will be blown away by,” he said.
“It is an Australian first, crossing the harbour in terms of a rail tunnel.
