Plans are forging ahead for more intensive development west of Sydney’s central business district at Pyrmont, which Gladys Berejiklian’s government last year said would be transformed into a “jobs and economic hub”.
Last year, the government consulted the public onthree “precinct plan scenarios” that would shape the revamp of Blackwattle Bay. The area was first designated as a future apartment, employment and dining hub in 2013.
Astate significant site study, which seeks to amend the planning controls for the roughly 5.4-hectare area to allow the redevelopment, said residents had favoured a mix of residential and commercial development.
The plans include 12 building envelopes for a cluster of towers reaching 45 storeys,or about 156 metres, and smaller buildings of four to eight storeys.
Planning and Public Spaces Minister Rob Stokes said the rezoning proposal included provision for 1550 homes for about 2800 residents. He said the retail and commercial buildings would potentially deliver 5600 jobs.
Mr Stokes said the development, which is located between Blackwattle Bay and the raised Western Distributor motorway, would also include new public spaces.
