“For the safety of our clients,a number of clinics and vans across NSW have been temporarily closed,” the BreastScreen NSW website read on Monday morning.
Closed clinics included those located within hospitals, such as Royal Hospital for Women and Royal Prince Alfred,David Jones and Myer stores as well as standalone and mobile van services.
“You will be contacted if your appointment has been cancelled,” the website read.
“All other locations are currently open so if you have not been contacted by our team, please attend your appointment as scheduled.”
A spokesperson for BreastScreen NSW,which is operated by Cancer Institute NSW,said the decision to temporarily close the clinics was due to the redeployment of staff to other areas of the pandemic response and “significant cancellations”.
“BreastScreen NSW services are operated by Local Health Districts. In response to the increasing risk posed by the COVID-19 Delta strain,as well as significant cancellations and a need to redeploy staff to support the pandemic response, districts have made the decision to close individual screening services as necessary,” it said.
Under Greater Sydney’s lockdown, residents are permitted to leave the house for medical reasons.
