The driver of the stolen Mercedes refused to stop for officers from the Traffic and Highway Patrol about 9.45am on Saturday,August 14,sparking a pursuit.
The car ran a red light and the chase was called off due to safety reasons. The vehicle was later found abandoned,with a flat tyre,on Miller Street in Cammeray.
Two men wearing dark clothing were seen dumping the silver car,before stealing a Toyota Camry from a 76-year-old man at gunpoint. The man wasn’t injured.
The State Crime Command’s Criminal Groups Squad is delving more deeply into the pursuit and carjacking,investigating whether there was a more sinister plot involving Hamze.
The suspects are yet to be caught but are understood to have left crucial evidence behind.
Hamze is the younger brother of slain gangster Bilal Hamze,who was shot after leaving the Kid Kyoto Japanese restaurant on Bridge Street in the CBD in June.
