Mr Perrottet promised to be an “infrastructure premier” but he said he would also focus on families.

“I will also be a family Premier, focusing on how we can make life better for working families, living the Liberal values of opportunity,” he said

The only change will be that Environment Minister Matt Kean will also take on Mr Perrottet’s previous responsibilities as treasurer. Mr Kean’s promotion to the key portfolio was part of a deal struck by Liberal powerbrokers to ensure Mr Perrottet had enough votes to become leader.

Mr Perrottet said he expects to reshuffle the cabinet over summer. He said Mr Stokes remains a good friend and will continue to play a key role in the government.

Following the vote,Mr Stokes said Mr Perrottet has his “undivided loyalty and support”.

Tuesday’s vote followed the shock resignation of Gladys Berejiklian as premier on Friday.

Ms Berejiklian quit as premier and announced she would leave NSW Parliament after the Independent Commission Against Corruption said it was investigating whether she breached the public trust or encouraged the occurrence of corrupt conductduring her secret relationship with disgraced former MP Daryl Maguire.

Ms Berejiklian had been expected to attend Tuesday’s meeting to address the party for a final time as leader but she did not attend and did not cast a vote.
