Despite the continued lack of community transmission, authorities were concerned after genomic testing confirmedthe Gold Coast case detected on Wednesday was not linked to any other cases.
Acting Chief Health Officer Peter Aitken said the man,who was fully vaccinated, had not travelled interstate, which meant he had caught the virus through an unknown vector.
“We don’t know how he got it at this stage,” he said. “The most likely cause is there has been an incursion somewhere from New South Wales.”
Dr Aitken said it was now vital that people on the Gold Coast come forward and get tested to try to find any other undetected cases which may be in the community.
“We need to make sure that no-one else on the Gold Coast has been exposed and may have COVID there,” he said.
There have been several unlinked cases on the Gold Coast in recent months, including afully vaccinated Uber driver in his 50s and a32-year-old man from Pacific Pines.
