Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk brushed aside concerns about the resignation and Opposition claims Dr Stepanov had been “shown the door”.
Opposition Leader David Crisafulli said the Premier was now facing a “full-blown integrity inferno”,alongside calls for the corruption watchdog’s own boss to step down following adamning parliamentary committee report into the handling of its since-dropped case against Logan councillors.
Dr Stepanov had previously raised concerns about the reported actions of the Public Service Commission, including allegations it confiscated mobile phones and laptops and altered security permissions to the office.
At the time,Ms Palaszczuk told Parliament the matter had beenreferred to the Crime and Corruption Commission.
On Monday the Premier told reporters she understood Dr Stepanov had taken a new job within the state, but would remain in her position until July.
“People change jobs all the time ... I don’t think it’s a problem at all. We will advertise and have a new integrity commissioner,” she said.
