Play it,don’t say it
The number-one rule of Wordle etiquette is so obvious you’d think you wouldn’t even need to say it,but here goes:don’t say it. When you get the solution, keep it SHTUM.
It’s a rule perhaps best demonstrated in the breach. “I taught my mum Wordle yesterday but didn’t teach her the etiquette,” one American player tweeted last week. “I woke up this morning to a screenshot of today’s word. We had to have a sit down.”
Clever clues are not clever at all
Ostensibly “clever” puns in which you drop clues to that day’s answer are not SMART at all, they just ruin it for lots of people. Please,in the name of common decency,CEASE now.
For some people, the only way to fully observe this etiquette is to only post references to the previous day’s Wordle,by which time it’s too late for anyone to profit or lose by it. The golden rule is the OLDEN rule.
You don’thave to post your score, you know
Of course, the whole when-to-post conundrum could be avoided simply by not posting at all. You know it’s not compulsory, right?
