“I lost so much weight to go on my Maui trip only to gain it back,” Spears said. “I thought ‘geez... what happened to my stomach?’

“My husband said:‘No,you’re food pregnant silly’. So I got a pregnancy test and uh,well... I am having a baby.”

It will be the pop star’s first child with her fiance, actor and fitness trainer Sam Asghari. The couple met on the set of a music video in 2016.

Asghari confirmed Spears’ announcement on his own Instagram account. “Marriage and kids are a natural part of a strong relationship filled with love and respect,” he said.

“Fatherhood is something I have always looked forward to and I don’t take lightly. It is the most important job I will ever do.”

The news comesafter a Los Angeles judge in November ended a conservatorship that had controlled Spears’ life and money for nearly 14 years. The decision followed a five-month odyssey in the courts that saw the pop star publicly demand the end of the agreement, hire her own lawyer, have her father removed from power and win the freedom to make her own medical, financial and personal decisions.

Spears previously revealed in open court she had been compelled to use an intrauterine device for birth control and prevented from getting married or having another child under the arrangement.

Spears said she would refrain from going out in public as much during the pregnancy to avoid the paparazzi and opened up about her struggle with perinatal depression during former pregnancies.

Spears has two sons,Sean Preston and Jayden James, with former husband Kevin Federline.

“Women didn’t talk about it back then ... some people considered it dangerous if a woman complained like that with a baby inside her,” Spears said.

“But now women talk about it every day ... thank Jesus we don’t have to keep that pain a reserved proper secret. This time I will be doing yoga every day.”

Paris Hilton was among the first to congratulate Spears on social media. The socialite wrote:“Congratulations sis!! I’m so excited for you!! Love you!!!”
