The centre’s concept design has been completed,and scoping and consultation was expected to begin now for the centre,which will give patients access to a range of medical oncologists,radiation oncologists and nurses.
“It will be the only cancer care service in the country offering the full spectrum of cancer services in one place,” Palaszczuk said.
Construction was expected to start in 2024,with the centre completed by 2028.
The Queensland government has committed $750 million ahead of the state budget,but would be open to federal funding in line with a Morrison government announcement made in May,which proposed a $375 million to establish a cancer centre.
Treasurer Cameron Dick said the investment was vital for the health industry and improving the health system was a central focus of the state budget.
Health Minister Yvette D’Ath said the centre,which would create 150 beds and 2000 jobs,would be managed under the Metro North Hospital and Health Service.
