“As expected,the COVID case numbers continue to climb and the peak of this current wave is not expected to be reached before the beginning of August,” he said.
The Ekka will run for the first time in three years from August 6 to 14.
RNA chief executive Brendan Christou said there were no current restrictions to major events such as the Ekka but organisers were continuing to work with Queensland Health.

“As a responsible organiser of major events,we maintain very high standards of hygiene and have comprehensive cleaning processes in place across the showgrounds,” he said.
“There are more than 300 handwashing basins and hand sanitising stations throughout the showgrounds[while all food operators are] implementing safe food-handling processes.
“At Ekka this year when buying a ticket online,you must nominate the day you’re coming. That way we can manage daily capacities and spread the crowds to ensure a great customer experience.
