In the state’s hospitals,928 beds across the private and public systems were being used by those battling influenza and COVID-19.
Health Minister Yvette D’Ath said the number of people in hospital for both viruses had reached the same level as the peak of the first wave of Omicron.
“We know we’ve probably got another two or three weeks until we hit the peak, and we expect these numbers to climb,” she said.

D’Ath said 2311 health staff across public systems had been furloughed.
“With the staff pressures and the extra hospital beds being taken up with COVID and the flu, this is putting pressure on our system,” she said.
“We are seeing the majority of hospital and health services have gone on to tier three, which means they are suspending some of their planned care.”
