Berejiklian appointed Chandler to the role in 2019, after a string of building failures – including cracking damage to the Opal Tower and Mascot Towers buildings – shone a light on the quality of residential construction in NSW.
The department spokeswoman said recruitment for Chandler’s replacement would “take place in due course”.
“Mr Chandler will continue his work with industry and the department in coming months with a continued focus on building reforms and the cladding remediation program.”

Chandler did not respond to a request for comment.
Labor’s Better Regulation spokeswomanCourtney Houssos laid the blame for his resignation on the Perrottet government,demandingFair Trading Minister Eleni Petinos “publicly explain the reasons for this dramatic and premature departure”.
“David Chandler has worked for more than 40 years in one of the toughest industries,yet barely lasted seven months working for this minister,” Houssos said.
