EVs represent 3.7 per cent of new car sales in NSW,according to the Electric Vehicle Council, with the state government aiming to increase that to 50 per cent within a decade.
Treasurer Matt Kean said the investment was the first of three funding rounds that would result in NSW developing the fastest and most comprehensive public EV charging system in the country.
“We know that the global car market is moving away from petrol models towards EVs. We need to ensure we have the modern infrastructure needed,so NSW drivers are not left behind,” he said.
“Having the infrastructure in place to support EVs will not only drive down emissions but make NSW one of the easiest and most affordable places to drive an electric vehicle.”
The renewable energy ultra-fast chargers will be able to charge modern EVs from 20 to 80 per cent battery in about 15 minutes.
Towns included in the rollout include Griffith,Dubbo,Wagga Wagga and Narrabri, while charging stations will also be built in Randwick,Cabramatta, and Chatswood.
