Floodwaters are continuing to impact inland NSW as swollen rivers and catchments inundate towns in southern and central western NSW.

There were 103 hazard warnings across the state on Thursday night. Authorities warned residents in parts of Wagga Wagga,Gunnedah and Forbes to evacuate from low-lying areas along the Murrumbidgee,Namoi and Lachlan rivers.

The weather bureau warned major flooding is expected at Forbes where river heights on Friday could reach similar levels to the devastating 1952 floods.

Janine Whitfield,58,has lived in Forbes since she was a child. The town averages a major flood every seven years with “a few small ones” in recent years.

“It’s hard to believe it because we’re all seeing local facebook posts of what it was like in ’52 and it’s hard to comprehend,” said Whitfield,whose property backs onto Lake Forbes.

“I think we’re all in a bit of denial. I sandbagged up last year and there was just a trickle down the side of the house … it’s hard to know,we are all saying we don’t know.

“I am a carer and would have to get to the lady I look after three times a day – if it gets bad I have a lend of a tractor … if it gets to that I’ll just go by tractor.”
