Prosecutors argued in the trial that Parizian had been at dinner with the woman and spiked her orange juice, then took her back to his home where he had moved his mattress to ensure it had a better position for the recording.

The woman was unaware the crime had occurred until the tape was discovered in a garage in 2009 and handed in to police in 2015. Detectivesmanaged to track her down by using details in the video, and had to tell her what had happened.

On Friday, during sentencing proceedings, the woman submitted a statement to the court in which she addressed Parizian directly, labelling him “a predator and a monster”.

“I wish I’d never met you. You destroyed my life as a young woman,” she said.

‘There is no penalty great enough for a person like you capable of such a horrific assault. You deserve everything you get.’

The court previously heard Parizian threatened the woman in the early 1990s that he had a video of them having sex. Although she didn’t believe him,she became extremely distraught.

“I was so horrified that I attempted to take my own life,” she said. “You obviously ignored how I might react to such a threat,a threat made to get your own way.”

The woman said when police told her in 2015 that the tape was real,“I was again horrified”.

“Watching that tape and the things that you said and did to me was painful and disgusting,” she said. “For seven long years I’ve had to wait to have my day in court and suffer the anxiety of whether you would be held accountable for your actions.

“Today,I can start to rebuild knowing you will be held to account. There is no penalty great enough for a person like you capable of such a horrific assault. You deserve everything you get.”

Parizian has continued to claim after his conviction that he was engaged in a consensual role play with the woman. He told a Community Corrections officer that the woman was “playing like she didn’t want it” and re-enacting a pornographic video.

A report tendered to the court found Parizian was a below-average risk of committing a further sex offence, and found him suitable for community service, but noted he had a “hostility towards women”.

“Mr Parizian seems to believe women’s intentions are often malevolent,as evident[in] his statement that ‘90% of women are gold diggers’,” the report said.

“The non-consenting sex offences that Mr Parizian engaged in may be an indicator of the risk factor of deviant sexual interest, which is associated with increased risk of sexual recidivism.”

Parizian’s barrister Chris Watson said on Friday there is a lack of evidence to establish beyond reasonable doubt that his client spiked the woman’s drink. He said alternative explanations were available for her demeanour in the video, including food poisoning.

“He still denies the offending,” Watson said.

Judge Jane Culver said she couldn’t see the woman’s behaviour in the tape being consistent with food poisoning. She said the woman was so obviously affected by a substance that the jury rejected the claim she had been role-playing.

“You have the victim’s evidence that she had not voluntarily or knowingly consumed any substance that could account for that we observed on the tape,” Culver said.

Parizian will face court again on May 26.
